About me

I’m Hugo Silva, a fullstack developer from Lisbon, Portugal, with more than 12 years of experience in web development. Most of which are leading teams and setting standards for deliverables and practices around Drupal, CodeIgniter, PHP, JavaScript and especially WordPress.

I am 37 years old and although I started out as a student of aerospace engineering, I ended up transitioning to web development. The rush and feeling of accomplishment when delivering a project was too much for me to resist and ended up making this passion my work as well.

Hobbies

Museums

Art moves your soul, and I simply love to go to a museum and just experience it firsthand. Whether in Lisbon or when I travel abroad, I always make an effort to see the latest exposition, especially if it is from modern art.

My favourite museum is MAAT in Lisbon. From the architecture of the building with a view over the river and the bridge to the expositions it usually has, I always make an effort to go there when something new comes along or just when it is a sunny day for a walk.

As artists, I do love Roy Lichtenstein, although my favourite exposition was about happiness in Museu da Electricidade in Lisbon (The Happy Show from the designer Stefan Sagmeister).

Cinema and plays

Before museums and all the traveling, there were movies. And I grew up watching and consuming a lot of cinema and immersing myself in a good story.

From Get Out to La La Land, my tastes keep changing and evolving, but that magic of watching a movie that makes you think and feel something is always there.

With time movies also evolved into plays. The last play I saw was from a weekend getaway in London where Wicked was playing and I couldn’t resist but to go there and watching it.

Gym and hikes

I’m not the biggest sports fan and my work and hobbies are usually sitting down. Because of this and in order to have more activity in my life I started going to the gym frequently and couldn’t help but fall in love with it.

This exercise quickly evolved outdoors and soon I was hiking all over Sintra and even was able to climb Mt. Doom (Mount Ngauruhoe) in New Zealand. Today, when it’s not very cold outside, I try to gather a few friends and go for hikes around nature. Praia da Ursa is a great hike and an even better view.

Work

All of the website is about my work, so I’ll keep this short. I’m a fullstack developer with 12+ years of experience in web development.

I’ve worked with the basics such as HTML and CSS and with more advanced technologies like the low-code platform OutSystems. With that I was able to both see and develop my skills across a wide range of technologies and topics that make me the good professional I am today.
